Funding

Along with the funding awards by the OUR and the Faculty of Science, there are a multitude of external funding opportunities that undergraduate science student researchers can apply for. 

Students must note that the some of the following funding programs and opportunities are not directly associated with the OUR; we have included them to provide a starting point for students seeking research funding from external organizations.

Description

BioTalent – Student Work Placement Program Wage subsidies for post-secondary students currently enrolled in STEM, healthcare and business undergraduate programs who are seeking a work placement in biotechnology and healthcare organizations

the application intake period for the winter 2025 term is now open. The deadline to apply is February 28th, 2025.

ECO Canada – Environmental Student Work Placement Program Funding for STEAM and business post-secondary students looking into short-term work placements in Environmental and Sustainability-based positions
MIRA Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships (USRF) Undergraduate students are invited to submit research proposals encompassing work that would complement existing MIRA-funded projects; students would get to work in collaboration with MIRA faculty members full- or part-time over the summer

Deadline to apply: March 28 2025, 4 p.m. ET

CSA Group Undergraduate Research Scholarship Supporting undergraduate students in the pursuit of novel research related to standards. The research can be conducted in any field (e.g., engineering, social sciences, health sciences) and must include standards as a central component of the research.The research is to be conducted over a summer term under the direct supervision of an academic advisor. Undergraduate degree students studying at a publicly-funded, accredited Canadian college or university in their second year of study or higher are eligible to apply.

Value: $6000/year (Award duration is for 16 weeks, May to August)
