Studies of modern Earth environments, using remote sensing can be used to help decipher the complexity of the underground layers. In addition, remote sensing can be used on Mars to detect ancient watery environments, such as rivers, deltas, lakes and oceans that may be candidates for extraterrestrial habitats. This presentation will cover uses of remote sensing as well as more traditional field studies that help decipher the history of ancient now vanished seas and lakes based on the sedimentary record.
